One Per Month

Lately I’ve been moving towards a focus on habits. Traditionally, I was a massive action, passion kind of guy. I felt that inspired action hits randomly, and when it does we take massive action.

Generally that action works out very well (if you’ve been doing all the other things we talk about here: Attracting Abundance Blueprint)

However, lately I’ve been opening my eyes to the other end of the spectrum. And it’s been a powerful learning experience.

What I mean by that is…consciously creating long term habits that create long term results. Now, I’d like to think that I manifested this shift in mindset to me…as I desired more stability in my life.

So how do you create a habit? Well, it’s pretty easy actually, so I’ll summarize it quickly:
  • describe the desired habit in detail in your own handwriting;
  • commit to doing it daily, starting today;
  • setup a “punishment” if you don’t do it;
  • post on your favorite public forum/blog/Facebook that you’re going to be doing X for the next 30 days
That’s it, do those simple things and you’re very likely to create a new habit within 30 days.

Another super useful tip is to focus on only one habit per month. Make it super simple.
So how has this paradigm shift changed my life?

Well now, I have a couple of daily habits that I do no matter what. They don’t take any effort, any willpower or any such sillyness. Instead they’re just a part of my day.

Inspiration occurs just as it did before, I act on it just as before…and if there’s any long term aspect to the action I either:
  • outsource it (eg. chef who specializes in athletic nutrition)
  • make it a habit.
Having this handful of super crucial habits allows me to build up momentum at a steady pace in a few key areas of my life, promoting long term, cumulative success.
